What to expect...
What is lomilomi massage?
Lomilomi is an ancient Hawaiian healing practice. Unlike conventional massage, lomilomi treats body, mind, and spirit as one it works with the emotions and energy held in the tissue, not only with the muscles themselves.
At Anam Aloha, lomilomi is also woven with voice: I am a singer, and during some sessions I sing as part of the work. You can read more about this on the About page.
I have never had a massage before. Is lomilomi right for me?
Yes. Lomilomi is a wonderful first experience of bodywork. The touch is flowing and nurturing rather than intense or clinical, and everything is adjusted to your comfort level throughout.
Spa Lomi the lighter, gentler version is an especially good starting point if you are new to massage. We will talk before the session about what you need, and you will never be asked to do anything you are not comfortable with.
What should I expect during my first session?
Your session begins with a brief conversation. I want to understand how you are feeling, what you are carrying, and what you need from the time we have together. This is not a medical intake. It is a listening.
You will then be guided to the treatment space, which is warm, calm, and prepared for you. During the session, I use long, flowing forearm and hand strokes. It is completely normal to drift into a deeply relaxed, near-sleep state. Some people experience emotional release — tears, sighs, a feeling of letting go. This is entirely natural and always welcome.
Afterward, you will have time to return to yourself gently. I will offer tea or water. There is no rush to leave.
Will I need to undress?
For a full-body lomilomi session, you will be asked to undress and will be draped with a cloth throughout. Only the area being worked on is ever uncovered. The level of undress is entirely your choice, your comfort and your sense of safety are always the priority. Nothing happens without your ease.
If you prefer to keep more clothing on, please tell me. We can always find an approach that works for you.
How long is a session?
Sessions range from 30 minutes to 120 minutes depending on the treatment. For a full-body lomilomi, 90 or 120 minutes allows enough time for the work to genuinely deepen. Shorter sessions of 60 minutes are also available and are a good starting point.
We can always discuss what is best for you before you book.
How is lomilomi different from Swedish or deep tissue massage?
Swedish massage tends to work muscle group by muscle group, using specific strokes for specific purposes. Lomilomi uses much longer, more continuous movements often covering the whole body in a single sweep and tends to work more intuitively than procedurally.
Deep tissue massage applies sustained pressure to specific areas of tension. Lomilomi can also work deeply, but the approach is different: rather than targeting tension directly, lomilomi creates conditions in which the body releases it of its own accord.
Lomilomi also carries a spiritual and energetic dimension that most Western massage traditions do not. The intention of the practitioner the aloha they bring is considered as important as the technique.
What is the singing about?
I am a singer, and my musical practice and my healing practice have become one thing.
During some sessions, I sing. Not as performance, not as background music. The voice carries vibration into the room and, in its own way, into the body. In both Irish and Hawaiian traditions, voice has been understood as a form of healing for thousands of years.
When I sing during a session, it is part of the same presence my hands are already offering. Some clients find it profoundly moving. Some barely notice it. Both responses are completely fine. If it is something you would prefer not to have, please tell me I will follow your lead entirely.
Can lomilomi help with stress and burnout?
Yes. This is one of the things lomilomi does best.
The flowing, sustained rhythm of the work calms the nervous system in a way that most other bodywork does not. It creates a genuine sense of safety a felt experience of being held that allows the body to release the patterns of stress it has been holding, often for a very long time.
People going through burnout often find that they cannot fully rest even when they try. A lomilomi session can interrupt that pattern. It is not a cure, but it can be a significant turning point.
How often should I come?
It depends on what you need. Some clients come weekly during periods of high stress or transition. Others visit monthly for ongoing maintenance and care. Some come for a single significant session and find that is enough for now.
There is no prescription. We can talk about what might serve you best when you book, and revisit it as you go.
I am going through something difficult. Is this still a good time to book?
Especially then.
Lomilomi was designed precisely for transition, for people standing at thresholds, carrying weight they are not sure how to put down. You do not need to arrive already open or already healed. You only need to arrive.
If there is anything I should know before your session, a recent loss, a significant life change, something your body is moving through, please feel free to tell me. It helps me listen better.

The Lomilomi punch card.
Do you offer punch cards or reduced rates?
Yes, I offer a Lomilomi punch card — a great incentive to keep coming back, with a substantial discount too.
Your punch card gives you a set number of sessions at a reduced rate, paid directly rather than through Treatwell. Once your card is in place, you book each session as normal and the discount applies every time.
What punch cards are available?
5-session punch card — €325 (5 hours at €65 per hour)
10-session punch card — €600 (10 hours at €60 per hour)
Which sessions are included?

Can I use my punch card for someone else, or share it with a friend?
Yes, in a few flexible ways:
- You can give a massage as a gift to someone else using your punch card.
- You can buy a punch card together with a friend, share the cost, and both still benefit from the discount.
How does payment work?
You pay for your punch card in advance, directly via bank transfer or Tikkie rather than through Treatwell. I keep track of your sessions on my end.
To set up a punch card, get in touch at info@anamaloha.nl.
How long is a punch card valid for?
Your punch card is valid for 1 year from the date of purchase — enough time to use it well, without any rush.
Is a punch card right for me?
If you are going through a sustained period of stress, transition, grief, burnout, or simply a season of life that is asking a lot of you, then the continuity of coming back regularly makes a real difference.
